#45 - Go to Therapy
I have always recommended therapy as a way of dealing with trauma or just a space to try and become more happy within your own skin.
I wanted to do this because I felt like a hypocrite recommending something I have never tried myself. I was also really keen to take this opportunity to use therapy to become more self aware. I envy people who wake up with the energy and drive to go to work, because they are truly happy about what they do. I believe to do this you just have to do what you love. I am on a self discovery journey to find my passion I can do as a career and continue to try new things to help myself grow.
The therapy session itself….. I have to say I will not being going back to this therapist. He ended with, ‘if you feel a good connection and would like to continue, book in a session and we keep going’. I liked this because I did not have a good connection with him at all, I really didn’t like the way he said ‘you’re paying me to provoke you’. The issue I had with this was he was provoking me with no clear goal or outcome.
I do think a form of therapy would suit me very well but I need to know what I am going to get out of this. I really enjoyed my coaching sessions I had with a great man called Alan Denton, more of a life coach I was lucky enough to get help from at James and James. He wanted to add value, he wanted to see me take action to determine what I wanted and then to go and do that. He provoked but it was clear why and what I was gaining from this.
I will not stop on my search for a form of therapy but I completely agree with the therapist, it has to be right for you and for only you to know what you want to get out of this.
