#76 – See Rome Colosseum

#76 - See Rome Colosseum

One of the 7 wonders of the world. I remember studying the colosseum in history class as a child about the Romans and o course I wanted to see the colosseums because of the epic Gladiator film. All key reasons why this made my life bucket list when I was researching top places/things I wanted to visit in the world.

We went all in for the day and scheduled a guided tour with GetYourGuide, and we were lucky enough to get a great tour guide called Silvia.
Walking up to it, into it and around the Colosseum was probably my highlight, it is some spectacle, and to think this was only built in 80AD, we literally had gladiators. I completely appreciate why it is one of the 7 wonders of the world.

We ended up doing the tour of the colosseum, followed by the gardens, houses and land around the building it, ending with a beautiful 360 view of Rome. It was incredibly hot, around 36 degrees, so the tour got a bit much near the end.

Fun facts from the tour
– 75,000 people in attendance and they were able to get everyone in, in 15 minutes.
– When they first started, they opened for 100 days. Over 5,000 animals and 3,000 gladiators died in that time.
– The inventions to bring the animals into the colosseum were amazing.
– They even did ship battles within the stadium.
– The building work and the detail is simply beautiful, symmetrical in every possible way.

Such an incredible day in Rome! We treated ourselves to a lovely pasta lunch and watched Gladiator in the afternoon ha
