#59 - Feed a Homeless person
I am very fortunate and grateful I was born into such a loving stable family. I always try very hard to show how much I appreciate this.
Throughout my life I’ve never really had much interaction with homelessness or known anyone who has been in this situation although being very aware of it. Quite frankly I can’t even imagine not having a roof over my head, feeling genuinely cold, real hunger, cleanliness and having no plan to move my life forward.
Making the list
I don’t even remember how this made the list, but I loving giving gifts, because it’s a win win, you feel great and the person receiving the gift feels great.
During the whole, lock down, Covid 19, World on it’s arse situation. I couldn’t think of a better time to put together a little bag of goodies and give this to someone who’s homeless and struggling currently. There are so many people in the world that need a helping hand, so being in a good position, I want to help where I can.
What do you buy someone who’s homeless? I did what I normally do and I googled it. I ended up getting a bit carried away, but in the end this pack included things like, biscuit bars, crackers, a meal deal, face whipes, tins of tuna and some socks.
Giving the gift
Northamptons homeless problem is severe. If you head into town you can see this everywhere. A lot of homelessness by the supermarkets especially.
I often see a young lad by the Co-Op so I decided I was going to give him the goody bag. He said he was down on his luck, not doing too well. I gave him the bag and he said, ‘are you sure?’ His eyes light up at just the sandwich, he was chuffed with that. A contagious smile. His smile gave me goosebumps and that feeling in your belly when you know you’ve done something really good. I told him to have a good day, and got back in the car and drove away I looked back and he was still gleaming.
Very glad I put this on my bucket list. Incredibly rewarding. If anyone reads this or when you read this back James in years to come, think about people around you who could do with a little nudge in the right direction, a helping hand or even a smile and go and make it happen.
